Ramayana Trail Spiritual Journey

Tour Overview

A dedicated Ramayana Trail pilgrimage through the sacred sites of Sri Lanka associated with the Ramayana epic – Munneswaram, Kandy, Ramboda’s Hanuman temple, Nuwara Eliya’s Seetha Amman Temple and Ashok Vatika, and Kelaniya – designed for travellers from the Indian market whose cultural and devotional connection to these landscapes and their stories is direct and profound.

Day-By-Day Itinerary

1

Day 1

Chilaw – Munneswaram Temple & Ramayana Sri Lanka Opening

Arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport and private transfer to Chilaw for the first Ramayana Trail sites – Munneswaram Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and associated with the Ramayana legend of Ravana’s atonement, and the nearby Manavari Temple, one of the oldest temples in Sri Lanka. These two coastal sites provide the Ramayana Trail’s opening chapter: the island as a landscape of sacred narrative.

2

Day 2

Kandy – Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic & Sacred City Heritage

The drive to Kandy for a full cultural day – the Sri Dalada Maligawa visit and an exploration of Kandy’s sacred and architectural heritage that provides the cultural depth and historical grounding to contextualise the Ramayana sites ahead.

3

Day 3

Nuwara Eliya – Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple & Tea Country Arrival

The highland drive to Nuwara Eliya via the Ramboda waterfalls and the Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple – one of the Ramayana Trail’s most devotionally active sites, built to honour Hanuman’s role in the Ramayana story and visited by large numbers of Indian pilgrims throughout the year. Tea plantation stops along the way introduce the extraordinary highland landscape.

4

Day 4

Seetha Amman Temple, Ashok Vatika & Hakgala Botanical Gardens

Two of the Ramayana Trail’s most emotionally significant sites in Nuwara Eliya – Seetha Amman Temple, built where Sita is said to have been held captive by Ravana during her time in Lanka, and the Ashok Vatika gardens at Hakgala Botanical Gardens, believed to have been the garden where Sita awaited rescue. The botanical gardens themselves are among the most beautiful highland public spaces in Sri Lanka.

5

Day 5

Kelaniya Temple – Ramayana Trail Conclusion & Colombo Arrival

The drive from Nuwara Eliya to Colombo via the Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara – one of Sri Lanka’s most sacred Buddhist temples and a Ramayana Trail site associated with Vibhishana, Ravana’s brother who aided Rama. An afternoon in Colombo for the final night.
